In the early days of kitesurfing Santa Cruz was commonly featured in kitesurfing media. The Santa Cruz kitesurfing community held an annual international wave kiting competition called “The Waddell Creek Kite Clash.” Kitesurfers from all over the world would show up for a four day, multi elimination wave-kiting contest that drew the biggest names in kiteboarding, and spectators from all over. After the 2003 contest, the Kite Clash was cancelled and the people and places of Santa Cruz fell out of the international spotlight. That was when the Head Ranger at Ano Nuevo State Park, a kitesurfer and 30 year veteran of the North Coast, decided to distill his video footage taken during the early days of kiting into a short kitesurfing documentary about the people and places of the north coast. After enlisting the help of Shallow Hal, an up and coming screwfoot kiter, they edited the classic footage and interviews from the early days into a document which captures who did what, when and how it all got started. That was the beginning of the TESTIMONY series of films.
